Speakers Forum started of the year with a highly productive September and October. Speakers Forum unanimously made several budget allocations. In September, Speakers Forum allocated $3000 towards the bringing of Pietra Rivoli, author of Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy. Speakers Forum also allocated $1300 towards the bringing of Mendel Sachs, a former physics professor at SUNY Buffalo. Finally, Speakers Forum allocated $3000 towards the bringing of Jay Friedman, an award-winning sex educator. In October, Speakers Forum allocated $300 towards the bringing of Gloria Lopez, a Nicaraguan human rights advocate . Speakers Forum also allocated $420 towards the holding and filming of a forum on the positions of the local and statewide political candidate on Palestinian issues. Thirdly, Speakers Forum unanimously agreed to co-sponsor an event featuring Matt Holden, a former Clark student who served with the US Army in Iraq. Finally, Speakers Forum earmarked $2000 towards an event focusing on HIV/AIDS. The event featuring Pietra Rivoli was held on September 3 and was attended by 100 students. The event featuring Jay Friedman was held on September 29 and was attended by 160 students. The event featuring Matt Holden will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00pm in Jefferson 218. The event featuring Gloria Lopez will be held on Friday, Wednesday, October 24. The forum on political issues regarding Palestine will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00pm in Tilton Hall. The event with Mendel Sachs will be held on October 29 at 8:00pm in the Sackler Center. |

Speakers Forum held a brief meeting on November 3rd. The first order of business at this meeting was to go over new event data from the past week. The physics event featuring Mendel Sachs was held on was attracted 66 attendees. The event on Middle East policies of major political parties drew an audience of 113 people. Our second order of business was to earmark $1500 towards the bringing of Professor Thomas DiLaurenzo to discuss his books on revaluating the Lincoln presidency. Lastly, Speaker Forum formally changed the meeting location from Rosenblatt Conference Room to Klein Conference Room. |
